POSITION SUMMARY:
Internews seeks a Program Officer to assist with the management of the Global Internet Policy Project, a global effort to empower civil society to engage in internet policy advocacy efforts.
The Program Officer will be responsible for managing partner relationships and overseeing sub-grants to local organizations. They will also manage the projects research and monitoring and evaluations efforts, including coordinating with consultants and developing project reports. The Program Officer will work closely with the Project Manager to identify and develop new strategic partnerships and activities in priority countries.
Given the innovative and dynamic nature of the Global Internet Policy Project, this position is best suited towards creative individuals who thrive in collaborative team environment but also know how to prioritize and multi-task efficiently. Prior experience working on internet freedom, ICT4D, freedom of expression or public policy initiatives is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Support project management and implementation of the Global Internet Policy Project
Manage sub-grants to partner organizations, including monitoring finances, workplans and reporting.
Manage project monitoring and evaluation efforts; coordinates with consultants and partners on mid-term and final evaluations,
Prepare proposals/reports/budgets, including text editing of proposals. Lead writer/organizer of project reports.
Identify and develop new strategic partnerships and activities in target countries in collaboration with the Project Manager.
Carry out research as assigned and in support of ongoing projects and new initiatives.
Represent Internews at conferences and events, with funders and with policy experts.
Research and develop new partnerships and funding opportunities.
Prepare correspondence and reports from conferences and discussion panels.
Oversee organization of meetings/events as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 5 years programmatic experience in relevant non-profit
Relevant university degree required.
Extensive grant proposal writing experience, and proven text-editing proficiency
Language proficiency a significant asset; other regional language skills helpful
Experience in developing or supporting programs
Experience developing and managing a monitoring and evaluation efforts
Experience with legal/regulatory issues and/or policy advocacy a significant asset
Experience and understanding of the Internet Freedoms sector
Previous work experience with DRL programs and projects
Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate
Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening
Proven ability to set priorities and manage time effectively
Proven analytical and problem-solving ability
Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
Proficient in MS Office
