The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two temporary full-time (from approx. August 19, 2013 to approx. November 29, 2013) Survey Assistants to join our team of professionals in Engineering Division, Public Works Engineering Services Department.

Reporting to the Instrument Person III, you will be responsible in this unionized position for assisting in construction and topographical survey work, setting up and operation of the survey instrument; searching out plans, locating buried utilities using an M-Scope; taking linear measurements as directed with a steel tape or chain; cutting, driving and marking posts and stakes; assisting in establishing lines and grades; uncovering survey pins; making elementary notes, sketches and computations; as well as clearing trees, weeds, brush and other obstacles.

Your education will include completion of the 12th school grade, supplemented by survey related courses and some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  You will have a good working knowledge of the methods, techniques and equipment used in Municipal survey work; construction and engineering practices; of mathematical functions related to the work; of the Divisions recordkeeping methods and office practices.  You will also have the ability to perform detailed work accurately, neatly and rapidly, including work requiring well developed hand-to-eye coordination as well as to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, and to exercise tact and diplomacy in relating to members of the public.  A valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) drivers license is required.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $22.08 $25.96 per hour (2011 rates) plus 12% in lieu of benefits.  The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
