About Build Change
Build Change (www.buildchange.org) is an international non-profit social enterprise that designs earthquake-resistant houses in developing countries and trains builders, homeowners, engineers and government officials to build them. Build Changes designs are affordable, culturally appropriate, and use materials and techniques that will continue to be used after our intervention is finished. Build Change works with the public and private sector to leave in place long-term change in construction practice, by assisting governments to develop building codes and small businesses to produce and market better building materials. Build Change has ongoing operations in Indonesia and Haiti and is expanding to Latin America. So far, Build Change has trained more than 15,000 people in Indonesia, China, Haiti, and Guatemala, who have in turn built nearly 20,000 earthquake-resistant houses, impacting more than 80,000 people.
Build Change is a US-based 501(c)3 non-profit social enterprise in operation since 2004. Build Change has won grants from Echoing Green, Draper Richards Foundation, Mulago Foundation and Ashoka-Lemelson and was named a 2008 Laureate in the Equality Category for Technology Benefiting Humanity by the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation Tech Awards. About the Position
Build Change is seeking a Development Associate, Individuals and Major Gifts, based at its headquarters in Denver, CO. The position will work in close cooperation with the CEO and the entire development team to support research, cultivation, and stewardship of individual donors, high net worth individual donors, and small family foundations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
Manage current and potential list of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) and small family foundations, including updating contact information in Salesforce or other donor database
Prospect for and research potential HNW donors, including individuals and family foundations, especially in the Denver metro area
Make calls, build connections, and set up cultivation meetings and events
Develop and organize donor events, especially in the Denver metro area
Maintain cultivation and renewal calendar for individuals and small family foundations
Manage individual donor gift and acknowledgement process
Write and maintain correspondence including proposals, reports, introductions, and thank you letters
Design and oversee the development of marketing collateral targeted at HNWIs
Maintain and upgrade Build Changes fundraising database

Education and Experience
Bachelors degree, preferably from a leading school
Minimum of one year of fundraising experience in a non-profit organization
Fundraising experience with an international social enterprise working on housing, capacity building, or job creation in the developing world a plus
Advanced skills in using social media tools
Experience with data management systems, specific experience with Salesforce, Raisers Edge or a similar donor database a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; familiarity with desktop publishing and website editing software strongly desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal, writing, and communications skills required, both written and verbal (e.g., donor meetings, research briefs, presentations, correspondence, proposals, reportsw), including compelling, clear, succinct, rapid, and jargon-free writing abilities
Confident and fearless telephone skills required
Outstanding, outgoing interpersonal skills, high energy level, and ability to speak persuasively in front of large and small groups
Exceptional research and information management skills required
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment
No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible and have a good sense of humor
Knowledge of and passion for Build Changes mission; engineering, construction, or architecture experience is helpful but not required
Position requires willingness to travel and occasionally work on weekends, and outside of normal business hours as necessary for donor cultivation events and meetings and/or to collaborate with colleagues in Indonesia, Haiti, and elsewhere in the United States.
